Many of you joined us for Prepare the Way: an Advent Conversation. Carrie and I started sharing our Advent thoughts with each other, and were inspired to have them out loud - and invite others to join us. Thank you for being part of that.
This has further inspired us!
We now have a crazy big - and very simple - vision: create a framework for being a Christian.
It seems to us that it’s often complicated to figure out what it means to follow Jesus, and to be part of a church.
Do we join a particular denomination? Have a particular viewpoint on social and cultural issues? Do we read the Bible, attend worship services, pray every day? How do we know if we’re doing it right? Do we know why we’re doing all these things? Or where to start?
People have been asking these questions since the first disciples were trying to figure out who Jesus was!
Of course, we’ve found some answers along the way as the Christian community. We’ve also found that trying to figure it out has always been part of the journey!
So again, we’ve decided to invite you to be part of it with us…
Your Life with God is a framework for:
Discovering your faith
Living your faith
Growing your faith
…and finding your life transformed
We’re on a very simple mission: create a framework around becoming and growing as a follower of Jesus.
No matter what your denomination, political background, country of origin, level of understanding or feeling about what it means to be Christian.
For centuries, individuals and communities have been organizing and understanding themselves in many different ways as Christians. In today’s world, there’s great confusion - and often division - about what it means to follow Jesus and how it transforms our lives, and the life of the world.
Your Life with God is one way to live a Christian life: drawing on centuries of tradition, and the things most followers of Jesus have in common today.
We’re calling these Presence, Calling, and Ritual.
Presence = God reaching out to us (Scripture, sacrament, divine revelation).
Calling = Our response to God’s presence and power in our lives (vocation, service, relationship, community, hospitality, creativity).
Ritual = How we order our lives to make space for this holy relationship (prayer, worship, silence, sabbath, feasting/fasting, repentance/forgiveness).
Your Life with God is a journey you can follow online through this Substack community.
Your congregation can also become a ‘chapter’ through Free Range Priest, and you can use this journey as the center of your life together.
[***important note*** : If you are already working with Free Range Priest through Planning Center (I’m looking at you, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury, NC!), you are already subscribed as a chapter]
As a free subscriber, you will get quarterly updates from the community. Join us as a paid subscriber to be a full participant in:
Monthly community. Weekly reflection. Daily Practice.
We’ll gather online (and encourage chapters to gather in person) for a monthly activity.
Every week, you’ll receive a reflection on Presence and Calling, and Ritual prompts for daily practice.
There will be 4 ‘Intensive’ seasons - Advent, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, and between them will be 4 ‘Reflective’ seasons.
It all begins in February 2025! You’ll receive your first reflection via email on February 3rd.
Join us to experience the transforming power of Love in the world, and live a life of wonder and joy.
Blessings,
Cathie Caimano and Carrie Craig
I’m really fascinated by what you’re proposing here. I’ve been working myself on a way to pair liturgical seasons with spiritual practices. I haven’t made enough progress yet but when I do I’d love to compare notes.
I’m curious about the 4 reflective seasons.
