We have a crazy big - and very simple - vision: create a framework for being a Christian.
It seems to us that it’s often complicated to figure out what it means to follow Jesus, and to be part of a church.
Do we join a particular denomination? Have a particular viewpoint on social and cultural issues? Do we read the Bible, attend worship services, pray every day? How do we know if we’re doing it right? Do we know why we’re doing all these things? Or where to start?
People have been asking these questions since the first disciples were trying to figure out who Jesus was!
Of course, as the Christian community, we’ve found some answers along the way. And we’ve found a lot of differences and disagreements. We’ve also found that trying to figure it out has always been part of the journey - since the very first disciples were following Jesus.
So we’ve decided to take a deep dive through all the confusion and try to find the bottom - the basics of the Christian life and faith. Your Life with God.
And we would love you to be part of it with us…
Your Life with God is a set of ‘spiritual exercises’. Just like physical exercise, we’re creating the space and offering the activities to help you stretch and strengthen your soul:
Discovering your faith
Living your faith
Growing your faith
…and finding your life transformed
Your Life with God is a way to challenge our souls. It’s a way to grow in faith. It’s a way experience transcendence within the Christian tradition.
Drawing on centuries of tradition, as well as the things most followers of Jesus have in common today, we’re calling the steps to ‘spiritual fitness’: Presence, Calling, and Ritual.
Presence = God reaching out to us (Scripture, sacrament, revelation, nature, creation).
Calling = Our response to God’s presence and power in our lives (vocation, gifts, creativity, discovery).
Ritual = How we order our lives to make space for this holy relationship (prayer, worship, rest, good works, discipline).
Your Life with God is a journey you can follow online through this Substack community.
Your congregation can also become a ‘chapter’ through Free Range Priest, and you can use this journey as the center of your life together.
[***important note*** : If you are already working with Free Range Priest through Planning Center (I’m looking at you, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury, NC!), you are already subscribed as a chapter]
As a free subscriber, you will get quarterly updates from the community.
Join us as a ‘gym member’ - paid subscriber - to be a full participant in:
Monthly community:
Join us through ‘chat’ on Substack to craft a Rule of Life. The first Wednesday of every month, we’ll share on the chat - available all day - how we’re creating and following our ‘Rule’. You’ll receive an email notifying you about the chat.
Weekly reflection:
Every Monday you’ll receive an email post with reflections on Presence and Calling.
Daily Practice:
Each week’s reflection will also reference Ritual - and encourage you to Practice or explore it.
There will be 4 ‘Intensive’ seasons - Advent, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, and between them will be 4 ‘Reflective’ seasons.
Subscribe to Your Life with God just like you’d subscribe to a gym membership.
We know: lots of people sign up for gym memberships and never show up!
But we also know this: when people subscribe to the gym, they’re also more likely to show up! They push themselves to go there even when they don’t feel like it, because they’ve made that investment and commitment. That’s why this is a subscription community: we want to help motivate you towards strengthening your soul.
Show up. Show up for your life to be transformed, day by day, week by week, month by month.
We will provide the ‘equipment’, and the ‘exercises’. We provide encouragement and support for your spiritual journey in the Christian faith. We provide a framework to help you to grow in spiritual health.
You can be part of Your Life with God completely online . You can join us here, or you can join an in person “chapter“ at a church, and participate online or in-person - or both.
Here’s one more gym analogy: Your Life with God is like Peloton. You can work out at home and follow along with an online instructor. Or you can go to a place like Soul Cycle, where everyone gathers in person to work an instructor. You can also practice both ways.
It’s the same with Your Life with God.
Contact Free Range Priest for information about becoming a chapter.
Join us to experience the transforming power of Love in the world, and live a life of wonder and joy.
